What to Carry in a Traditional Mobile Purse

The short packing list that lets you leave the bigger bag at home on a Garba night.

A mobile purse is deliberately small. Packed well, it replaces a handbag completely for an evening out.

  • Phone — check it fits before the day, especially with a case
  • One card and a small amount of cash
  • House key on a slim ring
  • Compact kajal or lipstick for touch-ups
  • A couple of safety pins for the dupatta

Wear it across the body

A cross-body strap stays put while you dance; a shoulder-only strap will slip once the dupatta moves. If your purse has an adjustable strap, set the length while wearing the outfit rather than guessing.

Coordinate with the hem

Match the purse to the embroidery on your chaniya border rather than to the base fabric. It reads as intentional and works across more than one outfit.
